The Eleanor Mann School of Nursing hosted its 2nd annual Nursing Science Day on March 7, 2024. The symposium topic was The State of the Science for Animal-Assisted Therapy: Implications for Research, Education, and Practice Across the Healthcare Continuum. We were honored to host incredible speakers including Kyria Henry from Paws4People, Dr. Morgan Yordy from Auburn University, and Dr. Temple Grandin from Colorado State University. EMSON’s own Dr. Allison Scott presented on her work with Bella, the school’s therapy dog. I presented on The Gryffin Project studies, explaining Gryffin’s story, training, and the effect of AAT on prosocial behavior and emotional regulation in autistic youth. We were honored to be a part of such an extraordinary event! Links to the YouTube videos for the symposium speakers are listed below.
Gryffin and I were so excited to meet with different school administrators, counselors, and allied health therapists to talk about our work in AAT. It was a wonderful symposium and we made so many new friends who support the ASD community!
